Egyptian-Ghanaian consultations to strengthen bilateral relations and support stability 

The foreign ministers of Egypt and Ghana discuss expanding economic and development cooperation between the two countries.

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, met with Mr. Samuel Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, on Monday, June 1, on the sidelines of the Korea-Africa Ministerial Meeting, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations and exchange views on issues of common interest.

The Foreign Minister praised the momentum in bilateral relations between Egypt and Ghana in various fields, stressing the importance of increasing the volume of trade and joint investments to enhance trade and investment relations. He emphasized the importance of holding the joint committee meeting as soon as possible and building on the outcomes of the joint virtual business forum between Egypt and Ghana, which would contribute to utilizing the great potential of Egyptian companies and opening the way for the private sector to contribute to the implementation of national development plans in Ghana, especially in the areas of infrastructure, dams, energy, education and agriculture.

 

In the same context, Minister Abdel-Aty explained the importance of continuing cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical manufacturing and combating diseases and epidemics, which was reflected in the Ghanaian Ministry of Health receiving a shipment of medicines to treat hepatitis C virus provided by Egypt as medical aid during last March, and building on the results of the visit of the Ghanaian President’s Advisor on Health Affairs to Cairo to enhance cooperation in the health and pharmaceutical sector, especially with the Unified Procurement Authority and the Egyptian Drug Authority, and supporting the Ghanaian presidential initiative to establish the “Ghana Center for Pharmaceutical Industries and Bio-Manufacturing”.

 

Minister Abdel-Aty also pointed to the existing cooperation between Egypt and Ghana in the field of capacity building through training programs organized by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development, noting the success of Egyptian companies in implementing many projects in Ghana in various infrastructure fields and looking forward to more Egyptian participation in the development and construction process in Ghana, as well as increasing the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Ghana and opening markets for the products of the two countries, especially within the framework of the “Reactivate Accra” initiative, as it is an important platform for developing development cooperation and coordinating efforts between countries of the South that face common challenges and seek to achieve a comprehensive development renaissance.

For his part, the Ghanaian Foreign Minister praised the tangible progress achieved by Egypt in the areas of economic development, infrastructure development, and the implementation of major national projects, expressing his country's aspiration to benefit from Egyptian expertise and encourage the involvement of Egyptian companies in implementing development projects in Ghana, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, in a way that contributes to supporting development efforts and achieving the common interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.
