Chad will abolish entry visas for all Africans starting in 2027.

The President of the Republic of Chad, Marshal Mohamed Idriss Deby Etno, abolishing entry visas for all citizens of African countries, effective January 1, 2027, in a move aimed at promoting continental integration and facilitating the free movement of individuals within the continent.

The announcement came during a speech delivered by the Chadian president at the opening of the African Water Forum in the capital, N'Djamena, on Wednesday, in the presence of a number of leaders, officials, experts and international partners.

Deby stressed that Chad, by virtue of its geographical location, represents a meeting point between the different regions of Africa, emphasizing his country’s commitment to supporting African unity and strengthening cooperation between the peoples of the continent.

Chad, the crossroads of Africa

The Chadian president said: “Chad is the crossroads of Africa, a bridge linking East and West, North and South. It is a land of welcome and integration, and a supporter of African unity.”

In accordance with the principles of African integration

He added that the decision is in line with the principles of African integration and the free movement of people and goods, announcing that Chad will open its borders to all African citizens without the need for an entry visa starting from January 1, 2027.

He noted that this step reflects his country’s commitment to supporting the African Union’s goals of promoting economic and social integration among the countries of the continent, and facilitating the movement of citizens in a way that contributes to revitalizing trade, investment and cultural exchange.

The decision is seen as one of the most prominent measures taken by Chad to promote openness to its African surroundings and support the path of regional integration, at a time when several African countries are moving towards easing travel restrictions between countries on the continent.
