Egypt's ambassador to Liberia tells Zoom Africa News: Promising investment opportunities for Egyptian companies in the Liberian market

Exploring opportunities for cooperation and capacity building between the two countries

Ambassador Ahmed Abdel-Azim confirmed، Egypt's ambassador to Liberia، The depth of Egyptian-Liberian relations at various levels, noting that the two countries are linked by close relations based on continuous consultation, political and diplomatic coordination and the exchange of support towards issues of common interest, reflecting the keenness of both sides to enhance bilateral cooperation and push it to broader horizons.

Ambassador Ahmed Abdel Azim revealed in exclusive statements to ”Zoom Africa News” that there are great and diverse opportunities for Egyptian companies in the Liberian market, stressing that both the Egyptian and Liberian sides realize the importance of strengthening trade and investment relations between the two countries, which was reflected in the intensification of communication channels between businessmen and the private sector on both sides during the past period.

He explained that the joint efforts resulted in holding a number of meetings aimed at introducing the economic potential available to each party, coordinating on proposed areas of cooperation, maximizing the return from trade exchange, in addition to studying opportunities to establish joint investment projects and developing the necessary regulatory frameworks for them.

He noted that the Egyptian-Liberian Business Forum in Cairo provided direct communication between Liberian businessmen and their Egyptian counterparts, and explored ways to enhance trade exchange and joint investments.

He added that both sides see real opportunities to establish organic and sustainable trade relations, especially in light of Egypt and Liberia joining the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, which would facilitate the movement of products between African countries without tariffs or customs barriers.

The ambassador stressed that infrastructure, road and sewage network projects are among the most prominent areas in which Egyptian companies can play an important role in Liberia, especially given the priority given by the Liberian government to these sectors within the comprehensive national development plan “ARREST”, launched by Liberian President Joseph Boakai for the period from 2024 to 2030.

He pointed out that Egyptian companies have extensive experience and a proven track record in implementing major national projects, which makes them qualified to contribute effectively to the implementation of Liberian infrastructure projects in all their components.

A comprehensive study of Liberian needs

Ambassador Ahmed Abdel Azim explained that Egypt continues to play an active role in supporting development efforts within Liberia through capacity-building programs and human resource training, through training courses organized by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development in cooperation with the relevant Egyptian authorities.

He pointed out that Egypt was keen to prepare an integrated study of Liberian needs based on the priorities of the “ARREST” plan, which focuses on the agriculture, education, rule of law, roads, sanitation and tourism sectors, and then specialized training programs were designed to qualify personnel capable of contributing to the implementation of this plan efficiently and effectively.

The ambassador stressed that Egypt attaches particular importance to the concept of “training trainers”, which ensures expanding the scope of benefiting from Egyptian expertise within Liberia and achieving sustainability in knowledge transfer and capacity building, which supports development efforts and enhances the partnership between the two countries in various fields.
