Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, received today MP Sherif El-Gebaly, Chairman of the African Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, to consult on ways to enhance the Egyptian presence in the African continent and integrate efforts between the executive and legislative authorities in a way that serves national interests.
Minister Abdel-Aati emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ pride in the existing cooperation with the Egyptian Parliament and its various committees, stressing the importance that the Egyptian state attaches to the African sphere as one of the basic pillars of foreign policy.
Strengthening cooperation with African countries
Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of strengthening communication with African parliaments through parliamentary friendship groups, and the need to intensify efforts to enhance cooperation with African countries, especially in the areas of economic and development cooperation.

It also promotes trade and investment, along with the implementation of infrastructure, energy and logistics projects, which contribute to supporting regional integration and achieving sustainable development.
Supporting Egyptian foreign policy priorities
The Foreign Minister also pointed to the importance of expanding strategic partnerships with African countries, building on the momentum achieved through visits by businessmen and investors to African countries, and strengthening the role of the private sector in supporting development efforts on the continent.
For his part, MP Sherif El-Gebaly expressed the committee’s keenness to continue cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support the priorities of Egyptian foreign policy in Africa, and to enhance the leading Egyptian role on the continent.
In a different context, Ambassador Ahmed Tayeh, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, met with Mohamed Bamba Makt, Speaker of the Mauritanian Parliament, to discuss ways to strengthen parliamentary relations between the two countries and exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest.
Egyptian diplomatic efforts
The Egyptian ambassador stressed the continuation of efforts to strengthen cooperation at the parliamentary level, to build on the deep-rooted historical relations between the Egyptian and Mauritanian peoples. The Speaker of the Mauritanian Parliament indicated his country’s aspiration to elevate bilateral parliamentary relations in a way that fulfills the hopes of the Mauritanian and Egyptian peoples.
