The Senegalese national team bid farewell to the tournament from the round of 32 after a painful scenario against Belgium, as they were leading 2-0 until the 86th minute, before conceding two goals that brought the match back to square one, and then lost in extra time with a third goal from a penalty kick, ending their World Cup adventure amidst a state of frustration.
The team had reached the knockout stages with difficulty after finishing third in its group, following two losses against France and Norway, compared to a big win against Iraq, to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
The federation president drops a bombshell
In the latest chapter of the crisis, the president of the Senegalese Football Federation, Abdoulaye Fall, revealed that the national team doctor was not a specialist in sports medicine, but rather worked as a gynecologist and obstetrician, stressing that he was unaware of this information until after the start of the tournament.
He explained that a number of players expressed reservations about the matter, which raised widespread questions about the mechanisms for selecting the medical staff and its readiness to deal with the needs of the national team players during a tournament the size of the World Cup.
A series of scandals within the camp
