Senegal on the cusp of a new political era: Consultations ahead of the founding congress of the new party

Senegal’s political scene is witnessing rapid activity, as President Bassirou Diomêne Faye continues his series of consultations with elected local officials, following the announcement of the establishment of a new political party, in a move seen as an important milestone in rearranging the political landscape and strengthening coordination between the central authority and local administrations.

Consultations to enhance political participation

The consultations led by the President with mayors and local officials focused on discussing the priorities of the next phase, listening to the visions of elected leaders on local development issues, as well as exploring mechanisms to enhance decentralization and improve public services, in line with the reform program adopted by the government.

Observers believe that these meetings reflect a trend towards involving various local actors in shaping public policies, in order to broaden the base of political participation and achieve greater national consensus in the coming phase.

Founding conference in Dakar

The capital, Dakar, is scheduled to host the founding conference of the new party on August 8, amid expectations of broad participation from political leaders, local elected officials, civil society representatives, and party supporters from across the country.

The conference is expected to witness the announcement of the party's organizational structure, the adoption of its political program, and the setting of its priorities in the areas of economic reform, governance, and local development, as well as enhancing transparency and combating corruption.
