The Libyan-Egyptian Consular Committee meets in Tripoli to discuss cooperation.

Advanced judicial cooperation between Egypt and Libya

It was held in the capital Libyan Tripoli, the 14th session of the Libyan-Egyptian Joint Consular Committee is underway, with high-level official attendance from both the Libyan and Egyptian sides, as part of the ongoing bilateral coordination between the two countries on consular and legal matters.

The meeting was chaired on the Libyan side by the Director of the Consular Affairs Department at the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Egyptian delegation was headed by the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Consular Affairs, with the participation of a number of relevant government agencies in both countries.

Participation of sovereign institutions in both countries

The committee's work was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Labor and Rehabilitation, in addition to the Administrative Control Authority in both Libya and Egypt, in a step that reflects the importance of the issues raised and their direct connection to citizens' rights and legal procedures between the two countries.

This expanded presence aims to enhance coordination between the relevant institutions and develop mechanisms for joint cooperation in consular and judicial fields.

Discussion of judicial and legal cooperation

The meeting between the two sides addressed ways to enhance judicial and legal cooperation, and discussed mechanisms to expedite the implementation of judicial delegations between the courts in the two countries, which contributes to facilitating legal procedures and reducing litigation periods in joint cases.

The two sides also discussed the issue of recognizing civil and commercial judgments issued by the courts of both Libya and Egypt, within the framework of strengthening judicial confidence and facilitating legal transactions between citizens.

Steps to develop judicial procedures

Both sides agreed on the importance of developing the judicial cooperation system in line with the needs of citizens in both countries, especially with regard to civil, commercial and personal status issues, in addition to facilitating the exchange of information and documents between the competent authorities.

The participants stressed that developing these mechanisms would contribute to reducing administrative and legal complexities and enhance the speed of resolving disputes of a common nature.

Agreement on a joint electronic mechanism

At the conclusion of the meetings, the two sides agreed to establish a joint electronic mechanism for the exchange of judicial documents between the Ministries of Justice in Libya and Egypt, in order to ensure the speed and accuracy of the transfer of official information between the competent authorities.

This step aims to remove obstacles for citizens, facilitate legal and judicial procedures, and enhance institutional cooperation between the two countries, within the framework of supporting bilateral relations and developing joint consular work.
