It is pulled by several powerful diesel locomotives capable of hauling thousands of tons across rugged desert terrain, making it one of the longest and heaviest freight trains in the world.

A 704-kilometer journey across the desert

The train departs from the Zouérat iron ore mines in northern Mauritania and travels approximately 704 kilometers to the port of Nouadhibou, where the iron ore is shipped to global markets, particularly Europe and Asia. The journey typically takes between 18 and 20 hours, depending on operating conditions and train traffic.
