The President of the Republic received GabonIn Libreville, the capital, Brice Cloutere Olegui Nguema met with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, on the sidelines of the opening of the 17th annual retreat of the Chairperson of the Commission with special envoys and high-level representatives of the African Union.

During the meeting, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Gabonese President and the people of Gabon for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to the Union delegation and the participants in the retreat, praising Gabon’s commitment to supporting peace, dialogue and regional stability, in addition to its support for democratic transition processes in the African continent.

During the talks, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening African efforts to address the growing challenges related to peace, security, and humanitarian conditions on the continent. They exchanged views on developments in the African landscape, particularly in conflict zones experiencing protracted crises.

The meeting stressed the need to support and develop African-led mechanisms in the areas of conflict prevention, mediation, and crisis resolution, as key tools to ensure the stability of the continent and enhance its ability to manage its internal crises without external interference.

The two sides also discussed the importance of strengthening preventive diplomacy and intensifying collective efforts to address the challenges related to good governance, security and development, in order to support overall stability in Africa.

This annual retreat comes at a critical time for the continent, as many countries face complex political, security and humanitarian challenges, making this meeting a strategic platform for coordinating positions and developing joint responses.

Through this meeting, the African Union Commission seeks to enhance coordination with special envoys and high-level representatives, with the aim of increasing the effectiveness of African action on peace and security issues, and supporting ongoing mediation processes in a number of conflict zones.

The meetings concluded with an affirmation of a shared commitment to continue working to promote stability and peace on the continent, support democratic transition processes, and develop mechanisms for joint African action that serve the interests of the continent's peoples and enhance their ability to face current challenges.
