At the G7 summit, talks took place between Sisi and the President of the European Commission.
Looking forward to increasing the volume of European partnerships in Egypt

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met today in the French city of Evian with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, on the sidelines of the G7 summit.
The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the President praised the momentum and positive trajectory of relations between Egypt and the European Union since their elevation to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024.
The President stressed Egypt’s keenness to strengthen these relations and explore opportunities for cooperation in innovative and non-traditional fields, noting in this context the ongoing efforts to activate the outcomes of the Investment Conference in 2024, as well as the economic event held on the sidelines of the Egyptian-European Summit in October 2025.
He also reviewed the efforts made by the Egyptian state to implement structural economic reforms to improve the competitiveness and resilience of the Egyptian economy and develop the investment environment, expressing hope that this would be reflected in the volume of business of European companies in Egypt.
Fruitful relations between Egypt and the European Commission
Ambassador Mohamed El Shenawy, the official spokesperson, indicated that the President of the European Commission expressed the satisfaction of the Commission and European institutions with the positive pace of cooperation relations with Egypt in all fields, praising the efforts made by the Egyptian state in the context of economic reform in recent years.
The Commission President also praised the efforts undertaken by Egypt in the fields of combating terrorism and illegal immigration, especially in light of the huge economic and humanitarian burdens it has borne as a result of the crises in its regional environment.
Ms. Von der Leyen stressed the European Union’s commitment to continue working closely with Egypt to address common challenges, build peace, and promote cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
The official spokesperson confirmed that the President discussed with the European official a number of regional issues of common interest, where His Excellency reviewed the parameters of Egypt’s position based on the need to reach sustainable political solutions to all the region’s crises, in a way that preserves the sovereignty of countries and the capabilities of their people.
The President stressed Egypt’s support for the efforts that contributed to reaching an agreement between the American and Iranian sides that prevents a return to military escalation in the region, and guarantees the security and sovereignty of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the freedom of international navigation.
He also affirmed Egypt’s keenness to work with the European Union to implement the agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip, referring to Egypt’s position supporting the stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon, as well as the efforts made by Egypt to end the crisis in Sudan and stop the suffering of its brotherly people.
For her part, the European official praised the responsible Egyptian approaches to the region’s crises, commending the degree of convergence in positions between Egypt and the European Union, which qualifies them to play positive roles in resolving the current crises.
