The Foreign Minister and the EU envoy to the Horn of Africa discuss development efforts in the region.
Preparations for the Berlin Ministerial Conference on Sudan

A telephone call took place today between Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, and Annette Weber, the European Union envoy to the Horn of Africa, to discuss developments in the Horn of Africa region and support for security, stability and development in the region.
He rejected the creation of any parallel entities in Sudan.
The call addressed the ongoing preparations for the Berlin Ministerial Conference on Sudan scheduled for April 15, where Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the need to preserve Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, support its national institutions, and reject the establishment of any parallel entities, as well as the importance of launching a purely Sudanese-owned political process to end the conflict.

He also stressed the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce as a preliminary step towards a sustainable ceasefire, allowing humanitarian aid to reach those in need and alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people.
The Foreign Minister condemned all violations against civilians in Sudan, considering them a flagrant breach of the rules of international humanitarian law, stressing the need to protect civilians and infrastructure.
Achieving security, stability and development
In the same context, both sides stressed the importance of intensifying coordination and cooperation to achieve security, stability and development in the Horn of Africa region, especially in light of the great tensions that the region is witnessing, and stressed the need to support national state institutions.
The Foreign Minister also renewed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Somalia and continuing to build capacities in the field of establishing security and stability, especially in the face of the challenges of terrorism and extremism, in a way that contributes to supporting national cadres and enhancing stability and security, stressing the importance of mobilizing sufficient and sustainable funding for the African Union Mission in Somalia, so that it can carry out its tasks as hoped.
