From the Pyramids to the Grand Egyptian Museum: Madagascar's President Discovers the Treasures of Egyptian Civilization

The President of the Republic visited MadagascarAndry Rajoelina and his accompanying delegation visited the most prominent historical and tourist landmarks in Cairo on Thursday, July 30, 2026, as part of his official visit to Egypt, which comes at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The President of Madagascar visits the Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum during his official visit to Egypt.

The Malagasy president began his tour with a visit to the Giza Pyramids, one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, which were built about 4,500 years ago and are located about 15 kilometers from the center of the capital, Cairo. The area includes three main pyramids, headed by the Great Pyramid of Giza, whose original height was about 146 meters, in addition to the Sphinx, which still represents one of the most prominent historical and cultural symbols in Egypt and attracts millions of visitors annually.

The Giza Pyramids are a testament to the greatness of ancient Egyptian civilization, as they were tombs for the pharaohs whose civilization was known for its unique methods of mummification. They are also classified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and they receive about 13 million tourists annually. In addition, they are a destination for researchers and scholars from all over the world because of the historical and engineering secrets they hold.

The tour also included a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is one of the largest archaeological museums in the world, and houses thousands of artifacts that document the history of ancient Egyptian civilization, in addition to rare collections that reflect the development of civilization throughout the ages.

President Rajoelina and his accompanying delegation toured the museum's main exhibition halls, including the statue of King Ramses II, which greets visitors at the entrance, along with a number of archaeological treasures that highlight the Egyptian cultural heritage.

The visit reflects the interest of the President of Madagascar in learning about Egypt’s ancient history and the country’s most prominent tourist and cultural destinations. It also confirms the global position that Egypt occupies as one of the most important tourist and archaeological destinations, with its historical sites that represent a unique human and cultural heritage.

Egypt and Madagascar strengthen their strategic partnership

In a separate context, Egyptian-Madagascar relations witnessed a new impetus towards strengthening Bilateral cooperationThis comes after the signing of a number of cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries, during the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Madagascar to Egypt.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty and Madagascar's Foreign Minister Rasata Rafravavitavika, along with a number of senior officials from both countries, as part of joint efforts to expand cooperation in priority sectors.
