حظر الاتحاد الأوروبي، شراء واستيراد ونقل الذهب السوداني، في محاولة للحد من مصادر تمويل الصراع المدمر في البلاد.
كما يحظر الإجراء الذي أعلنه المجلس الأوروبي، يوم الاثنين، ببيع وتوريد ونقل وتصدير الزئبق والسيانيد إلى السودان، وهما مادتان كيميائيتان تستخدمان في استخراج هذا المعدن الثمين.
يشمل القرار استثناءات محددة، مثل السلع المخصصة للأغراض الإنسانية، وحالات الطوارئ الصحية العامة، والاستجابة للكوارث.
أصبح الذهب مصدرًا رئيسيًا للدخل في تمويل الحرب بين القوات المسلحة السودانية، وقوات الدعم السريع شبه العسكرية.
ومنذ اندلاع القتال في عام 2023، قُتل عشرات الآلاف من الأشخاص ونزح الملايين، مما أدى إلى ما وصفته الأمم المتحدة بأنه أسوأ أزمة إنسانية في العالم.
إغلاق الحدود بين السودان والجنوب
وفي سياق متصل، تصاعدت حدة التوتر بين السودان وجنوب السودان، بعدما أغلق Protesters Residents of the Abyei region, the main border crossings between the two countries, protested against statements issued by the Sudanese government regarding the region's participation in the general elections scheduled for South Sudan in December 2026.
The move raised concerns about its repercussions on trade and movement between the two countries, given the ongoing dispute over the legal and sovereign status of the Abyei region, one of the most prominent outstanding issues since the secession of South Sudan.
On Tuesday morning, protesters from the Abyei administrative region closed the main border crossings between Sudan and South Sudan, in protest against statements issued by the Sudanese government regarding the electoral status of the disputed region.
The protests came after Khartoum announced that the Abyei region would not be among the areas participating in the general elections scheduled to be held in South Sudan in December 2026, which sparked anger among the region's residents.
The protesters rejected what they described as Sudan’s claims of sovereignty over Abyei, asserting that these statements, in their view, represent an infringement on the right of the region’s inhabitants to self-determination and participation in the political entitlements of South Sudan.
The protesters affirmed their commitment to considering Abyei as part of South Sudan, stressing their determination to participate in the upcoming elections, despite the declared positions of Khartoum.
One of the protest organizers said that the residents of the area “will not accept any attempts to impose a political reality that contradicts their will,” stressing their commitment to their right to participate in the upcoming electoral process.
The closure of border crossings has halted trade and the movement of citizens between Sudan and South Sudan, raising concerns about potential economic and security repercussions if the crisis continues in the coming period.
