South Sudan's ambassador to Cairo meets with Pope Tawadros II and praises support for refugees

Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, received the Ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan to Egypt, Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop, at the Papal Headquarters in Cairo.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance humanitarian cooperation and support the South Sudanese community, in addition to emphasizing the deep relations that unite Egypt and South Sudan.

The meeting came as part of ongoing communication between religious institutions and diplomatic bodies, reflecting the role played by the Coptic Orthodox Church in supporting the most vulnerable groups and promoting the values of solidarity and coexistence.

Praise for the humanitarian role of the Coptic Church

During the meeting, Ambassador Chol Nyok Chol Arop expressed his deep appreciation for the support provided by the Coptic Orthodox Church to the people of South Sudan residing in Egypt, especially refugees and the most needy families.

He affirmed that the Church has played a prominent humanitarian role in providing aid and social services to vulnerable groups, praising its ongoing efforts to alleviate the burdens on refugees and provide them with moral and humanitarian support in light of the economic and social challenges they face.

He pointed out that these initiatives reflect the Church’s commitment to the values of mercy, human solidarity and respect for human dignity, as well as its contribution to promoting social stability and spreading a culture of peace and coexistence.

Continued support for the South Sudanese community

The Egyptian community hosts a number of South Sudanese citizens who reside in the country for various purposes, including study, medical treatment and work, in addition to refugees who were forced to leave their country due to the humanitarian conditions and conflicts that some regions witnessed during the past years.

In this context, the Coptic Church continues to implement humanitarian programs and initiatives aimed at supporting those in need and providing social assistance and basic services, in cooperation with a number of national and international institutions.

The South Sudanese ambassador affirmed that these efforts have contributed to improving the conditions of many families and have strengthened the values of solidarity between the Egyptian and South Sudanese people.

Egyptian-South Sudanese relations topped the agenda of the meeting.

The meeting also addressed bilateral relations between Egypt and South Sudan, with both sides emphasizing the importance of continuing cooperation in humanitarian, social and cultural fields in a way that serves the interests of both peoples.

The ambassador stressed that relations between the two countries are based on historical ties and bonds of mutual respect and cooperation, noting the importance of strengthening initiatives that support development and stability in the region.
