President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, today.
The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the meeting came on the occasion of the approaching end of Ahmed Aboul Gheit’s term as Secretary-General of the League, where the President expressed his great appreciation for the role he played during his tenure in office, and the tireless efforts he made to strengthen the system of joint Arab action and develop the mechanisms of the General Secretariat, stressing Egypt’s keenness to continue its firm support for the role of the League as the main umbrella for defending the interests of Arab countries and enhancing cooperation among them, in order to achieve the aspirations of the Arab peoples towards prosperity and well-being.
Ambassador Mohamed El Shenawy, the official spokesperson, added that Ahmed Aboul Gheit, for his part, expressed his deep gratitude to the President for his continued support of the League of Arab States and his constant concern for preserving Arab national security and protecting Arab interests.
He appreciated Egypt’s continued support for the role of the Arab League as a pivotal platform for strengthening relations and common Arab interests, stressing his pride in working closely with the President and all Arab leaders during his leadership of the General Secretariat, which witnessed unprecedented challenges to Arab national security and common interests.
The official spokesperson concluded by noting that the meeting addressed a number of current challenges facing the Arab security system, which necessitate strengthening cooperation, coordination and solidarity in order to build a better future for the sons of the Arab nation and to overcome the current delicate stage.
