The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) makes online business registration easy, often in less than a day, and offers incentives in sectors such as agriculture, technology, tourism, manufacturing, and clean energy. Foreigners can own 100% of a company, and land leases are available for up to 99 years.
How to get a job in Rwanda
To work legally, you will need a work permit. Most employers will provide this permit after offering you a job. Major sectors that employ foreigners include NGOs, hospitality, ICT, education, healthcare, and construction. You will need appropriate qualifications, a valid passport, and an employment contract to apply.
How to obtain a passport and visa in Rwanda
If you are a foreigner, you will not automatically receive a Rwandan passport. Citizenship is granted by naturalization after 10 years of legal residence, marriage to a Rwandan, or in other special circumstances, and requires renouncing your previous citizenship. Rwanda has a straightforward visa system for travel and residence.
Most nationalities can obtain a visa online or upon arrival through the IremboGov portal.
Tourist visas are valid for 30 days, as are business, study, and work visas. Tourist visas for East Africa include Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya.
After obtaining a work permit, you can apply for a long-term residence permit.
