The Central African Republic has declared a cholera outbreak after recording 24 deaths and 197 infections, according to Health Minister Pierre Somsi.
He explained that the outbreaks were detected in the health districts of Bimbo and Mbaiki, southwest of the capital Bangui, on June 26, 2026, noting that the authorities took immediate measures to limit the spread of the disease in the affected areas and surrounding regions.

Cholera is transmitted through contaminated water and food and causes dehydration and diarrhea. It remains a threat in poor countries with limited health infrastructure, as authorities continue their investigations to determine the source of this outbreak, the fifth in the country.
The government announced a state of full mobilization to contain the situation and called on residents to adhere to guidelines and preventive measures, coinciding with a state of health alert in the country due to the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
