Ambassador Mohamed Nasr met Egyptian Ambassador Austria and the Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna met with Monica Juma, the new Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, to congratulate her on assuming her new post.
Egypt affirms its support for Africa in combating transnational organized crime.
During the meeting, Nasr emphasized Egypt and the African countries“ full support for Ms. Juma, as well as the importance that African countries attach to the role of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, especially to strengthening national efforts and providing the necessary technical support in connection with the areas of work of the office, foremost among which are addressing the drug problem and reducing the use of Africa as a transit route for drugs, combating the illicit trafficking in cultural property, human trafficking and migrant smuggling, the increasing link between terrorism and organized crime, and dealing with cybercrimes.

The meeting emphasized the importance of considering developmental dimensions in addressing these challenges, in order to contribute to achieving sustainable development and enhancing the capabilities of African countries to confront cross-border threats.
A meeting in Vienna supports strengthening cooperation with the United Nations Office
Ambassador Nasr also expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the fruitful cooperation with the UN Office in many areas related to preventing and combating crime and achieving criminal justice, noting our aspiration to enhance cooperation with the training and excellence centers that Egypt intends to launch in the areas of combating cybercrime, illegal trafficking in cultural property, and training the coast guard to combat smuggling, pointing to the country’s expertise that it wishes to share with sister African and Arab countries.
