انتخب مجلس الشيوخ في بنين، الخميس، الرئيس البنيني السابق باتريس تالون رئيسًا للمجلس، في خطوة تضعه على رأس الغرفة العليا للبرلمان وتجعله يشغل ثالث أعلى منصب دستوري في البلاد بعد رئيس الجمهورية ونائبه.
وجاء انتخاب تالون، البالغ من العمر 68 عامًا، بالتزامن مع اختيار أعضاء هيئة قيادة مجلس الشيوخ، التي ستتولى إدارة أعمال المجلس خلال المرحلة المقبلة.
وبصفته رئيسًا لمجلس الشيوخ، سيتولى تالون الإشراف على جلسات المجلس، وتنسيق أعماله التشريعية، وضمان حسن سير عمل المؤسسة البرلمانية، بما يعزز دورها في دعم المنظومة التشريعية والرقابية في بنين.
محطة جديدة في مسيرته السياسية
ويُعد انتخاب الرئيس السابق لهذا المنصب محطة جديدة في مسيرته السياسية، في ظل استمرار حضوره في المشهد العام بعد انتهاء ولايته الرئاسية، من خلال تولي أحد أبرز المناصب الدستورية في الدولة.
في سياق آخر، تحولت العاصمة السياسية لبنين، بورتو نوفو، إلى مسرح مفتوح للتراث والثقافة خلال مهرجان الأقنعة، الذي جمع على مدار يومين شخصيات أسطورية مثل إيغونغون وزانغبيتو وغويليدي، في احتفالات ومسيرات ملأت شوارع المدينة بالألوان والطقوس التقليدية، ضمن استراتيجية جديدة لتعزيز السياحة الثقافية في البلاد.
The festival aims to introduce local and foreign visitors to the profound meanings of the masks, which represent an integral part of Benin's cultural heritage, as well as to highlight the rituals and traditions associated with them.
Professor Mahungnon Kakpo said that masks are not just decorations or a means of disguise, but carry messages and symbols passed down through generations over time, explaining that every civilization has its own masks that reflect the ideas and values of its ancestors.
He added that the festival has become international in character, as it is no longer limited to Beninese masks only, but opens the door to the participation of masks from other cultures, in a step aimed at promoting cultural dialogue and exchange between peoples.
Among the visitors, tourist Martin Cruz, who has been staying in Benin for two weeks, expressed his amazement at the festival, confirming that he had discovered for the first time this rich cultural heritage, with its dances, costumes, hairstyles and rituals with deep meanings.
