The death toll from floods that struck the Luanda and Benguela provinces in Angola has risen to 29, in addition to 17 injured and 3 missing, according to local authorities, as rescue and relief efforts continue in the affected areas.

Official reports indicate that the heavy rains that swept through the country in recent days caused torrential floods that led to the collapse of a number of houses, the washing away of main roads, as well as widespread destruction of electricity and water networks, exacerbating the suffering of the population.

Civil defense teams confirmed that they are working around the clock to search for the missing, amid great difficulties as a result of damage to infrastructure and the cutting off of some vital roads, while the injured were transferred to nearby hospitals to receive treatment.

Authorities also deployed additional emergency response units to the most affected areas, as they began assessing material losses and evaluating the extent of damage to public and private property.
The Angolan government urged citizens to be cautious and stay away from flood channels, as warnings continued of the possibility of more rain in the coming days.
