Rasha Suleiman, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Sierra Leone, made the first official visit by an Egyptian ambassador to the Kuenadugu region, during the period from June 5 to 7, 2026.

The visit marked an important milestone in the cooperation between the two sides, as it included extensive meetings with traditional and community leaders, and explored opportunities for cooperation in the fields of agriculture, capacity building and local development.

First official visit by an Egyptian ambassador to Koinadogo, Sierra Leone in history

This historic visit comes in response to a kind invitation from Mr. Ali Balansama Marah III, Chief of the Tribes, Member of the Sierra Leonean Parliament, and Representative of the Republic of Sierra Leone in the Pan-African Parliament.

One of the highlights of this historic visit was the embodiment of the spirit of solidarity shown by the traditional leadership, as the honorable tribal leaders from the Koinadogo and Falapa regions defied heavy rains and difficult road conditions to receive and welcome Ambassador Rasha Suleiman in Kabala.

Celebrating cultural heritage

The visit also included a celebration of cultural heritage, as the rich cultural heritage of the Coinadugu and Falapa regions shone through during the visit. The vibrant traditional dances, drumming, majestic motorcycle procession, and welcoming songs painted a wonderful festive scene that reminds us that true development always respects local roots.

High-level meeting and enhanced cooperation

On June 6, an expanded meeting (Durbar) was held, which included the esteemed tribal leaders, chieftaincy spokespeople, sector heads, town chiefs, local council members, representatives of women’s agricultural associations, and the youth council.

The Ambassador spoke about Egypt and its extensive experience in agriculture and capacity building, and a fruitful dialogue took place that addressed the challenges facing the two regions and ways of future support and cooperation.

Over these two historic days, the people of the Kuinadogo and Phalapa regions demonstrated the true meaning of Sierra Leonean hospitality and warmth. The Egyptian Embassy expresses its sincere appreciation for this generous welcome and highly values the wisdom of Sierra Leone's traditional institutions.
