Sisi meets with the President of the European Council on the sidelines of the G7 summit
Agreement on the importance of de-escalation in the region

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met today in the French city of Evian with Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, on the sidelines of the G7 summit.
The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the President affirmed his appreciation for the growing trajectory of Egyptian-European relations, especially after these relations were elevated to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership, and the convening of the first summit between Egypt and the European Union in October 2025.
President Sisi expressed the importance of continuing to work to strengthen these relations in various fields, especially economic, trade and investment, as well as enhancing aspects of political consultation and coordination between the two sides to promote regional peace and stability.
The President of the European Council praised the existing strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union, commending the development of relations between the two sides, and stressing the European side’s keenness to continue strengthening this partnership in various fields, in a way that achieves the interests of both parties.
The official spokesperson added that the meeting also touched on the latest regional developments, with the President affirming Egypt’s welcome of the agreement reached between the United States and Iran.
Egypt seeks to de-escalate tensions in the region
The President of the Republic indicated that Egypt hopes that this agreement will contribute to reducing the escalation that the region has witnessed during the past period, stressing Egypt’s keenness to continue working with the European side in order to find comprehensive and sustainable settlements to the various crises facing the region, especially in light of the convergence of views between the two sides regarding many issues.
He stressed the need to adhere to the provisions of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for the Gaza Strip, maintain calm in the Strip, enhance the unhindered access of humanitarian aid to the Strip, and quickly begin the early recovery and reconstruction process in the Strip.
The official spokesperson stated that the President of the European Council expressed the centrality of close coordination between Egypt and the European Union aimed at achieving regional and international peace and settling various regional crises, stressing his appreciation for the role that Egypt plays in establishing stability in the region, and for the efforts that Egypt has made to support the negotiating track between the United States and Iran.
The President of the European Council also praised the close cooperation between Egypt and the European Union in the areas of combating terrorism and illegal immigration, stressing the centrality of this cooperation to achieving peace and prosperity on both sides of the Mediterranean.
