Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni yesterday oversaw the graduation of 106 senior security officers, after they successfully completed the joint advanced course for political qualification and leadership skills development for senior officers.

In another context, the Ugandan government officially acknowledged a few days ago that its forces operating in Somalia as part of the African Union Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) have not received their salaries for a long time, stressing that it is working with the African Union to address the delay in financial entitlements and compensation for the soldiers.
Ugandan Prime Minister Rubina Nabanga told parliament that the government is fully following up on the issue of delayed salaries for Ugandan troops deployed in Somalia, noting that President Yoweri Museveni sent her last February to Addis Ababa to hold talks with African Union officials regarding troop salaries and other financial entitlements.

Nabanga added that Ugandan soldiers «have not received their salaries for a long time,» stressing that talks with the African Union and international partners have resulted in efforts aimed at settling the outstanding financial dues.
Concerns about the soldiers' conditions
The issue arose after Ugandan Member of Parliament Gilbert Olanya, representing the southern Kilk district, raised concerns about the situation of soldiers, some of whom returned from Somalia without receiving their financial entitlements, in addition to the continued delay in compensation for the families of some soldiers who were killed during their participation in military operations in Somalia.
The MP demanded that the government clarify its plan for paying the delayed salaries and compensating the families of the soldiers who lost their lives while serving in Somalia.
