The Conference of Presidents of the National Assembly (CDP) held a meeting this morning, Saturday, June 20, 2026, chaired by the President of the National Assembly, to discuss the latest developments regarding the proposed constitutional review law and its next procedural steps.
During the meeting, the Speaker of the National Assembly informed the members of the conference that he had received, on Friday, June 19, 2026, the opinion of the President of the Republic regarding the proposed draft law to amend the constitution, in a step that represents an important milestone within the constitutional path adopted for approving the amendments.
New constitutional move in Senegal
The Speaker of the Assembly explained that receiving the President’s opinion allows for the transition to the second stage of the legislative procedures for reviewing the Constitution, which is the stage of adopting the text and discussing it within the legislative institution, in accordance with the provisions of Article 103 of the Constitution and Article 69 of the National Assembly’s internal regulations.
In this context, the Conference of Presidents adopted a new timetable to complete the process of studying the draft constitutional amendment, whereby it was decided to allocate June 24, 2026, for the work of the competent committee that will examine the draft and study its articles in detail, before submitting its final report to the plenary session.

The conference also set June 29, 2026 as the date for the National Assembly’s plenary session, which is expected to discuss and vote on the draft constitutional amendment, within the framework of the legal and constitutional procedures regulating the constitutional review process.
This development comes at a time when the issue of amending the constitution is receiving widespread attention in political and official circles, given the institutional and legal changes that may result from it, which will affect the future of political life and the mechanisms of state institutions.
The coming days are expected to witness intensive discussions within parliamentary committees and among various political forces regarding the content of the proposed amendments, before they are presented to the representatives during the general session scheduled for the end of this month.
Thus, the National Assembly has officially entered the second phase of the legislative process for reviewing the constitution, in preparation for finalizing the project through the established constitutional mechanisms, amid anticipation of the results that will emerge from the discussions and the final vote.
