Qui est Kenneth Kaunda ?<\/h2>\n

Kenneth Kaunda est n\u00e9 le 28 avril 1924 et a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le central dans le mouvement d'ind\u00e9pendance zambien, en tant que premier pr\u00e9sident du pays de 1964 \u00e0 1991.<\/p>\n

Kaunda \u00e9tait issu d'une famille de la classe moyenne instruite ; son p\u00e8re \u00e9tait un enseignant missionnaire et sa m\u00e8re fut la premi\u00e8re enseignante africaine qualifi\u00e9e du pays.<\/p>\n

Il a suivi les traces de ses parents en Zambie (Rhod\u00e9sie du Nord), o\u00f9 il est devenu directeur d'\u00e9cole avant m\u00eame son vingt et uni\u00e8me anniversaire. Il est ensuite parti enseigner au Tanganyika (Tanzanie), o\u00f9 il a vou\u00e9 une admiration sans faille au futur pr\u00e9sident Julius Nyerere, s'effor\u00e7ant d'imiter son approche \u201c\u00a0Ujamaa\u00a0\u201d du socialisme africain.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 son retour au pays, Kaunda mena campagne contre le projet britannique de cr\u00e9ation d'une f\u00e9d\u00e9ration regroupant la Rhod\u00e9sie du Sud, la Rhod\u00e9sie du Nord et le Nyassaland, ce qui aurait accru le pouvoir des colons blancs. Peu apr\u00e8s, il devint secr\u00e9taire g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du Congr\u00e8s national africain de Rhod\u00e9sie du Nord. Il fut emprisonn\u00e9 pendant deux mois aux travaux forc\u00e9s pour distribution de tracts subversifs.<\/p>\n

En 1962, suite aux pressions exerc\u00e9es sur l'occupation britannique, des \u00e9lections l\u00e9gislatives et pr\u00e9sidentielles furent organis\u00e9es. Le Parti uni pour l'ind\u00e9pendance nationale (UNIP) remporta les \u00e9lections, obtenant 55 des 75 si\u00e8ges. Le Congr\u00e8s national africain zambien (ZANC) obtint 10 si\u00e8ges, et le Parti national progressiste (NPP) remporta les 10 si\u00e8ges r\u00e9serv\u00e9s aux \u00e9lecteurs blancs.<\/p>\n

Kenneth Kaunda fut \u00e9lu Premier ministre, puis pr\u00e9sident la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, lors de l'adoption par le pays d'un syst\u00e8me pr\u00e9sidentiel.
