Le peuple Kara, qui vit dans la r\u00e9gion de la vall\u00e9e de l'Omo, dans le sud de l'\u00c9thiopie, est l'un des plus petits groupes ethniques du pays, ne comptant que quelques milliers de personnes.<\/p>\n

La population vit de l'agriculture et de l'\u00e9levage de mani\u00e8re semi-nomade, sa vie quotidienne \u00e9tant li\u00e9e aux cycles saisonniers du fleuve Omo.<\/p>\n

La tribu cultive des plantes comme le sorgho et le ma\u00efs sur les terres fertiles inond\u00e9es, et elle d\u00e9pend \u00e9galement de la p\u00eache et de l'\u00e9levage d'un nombre limit\u00e9 de t\u00eates de b\u00e9tail pour subvenir \u00e0 ses besoins alimentaires.<\/p>\n

La tribu Kara, comme beaucoup de tribus de la vall\u00e9e de l'Omo, est connue pour son art de la peinture corporelle et faciale \u00e0 l'aide de craie blanche et d'autres mat\u00e9riaux naturels, que ce soit en pr\u00e9paration de c\u00e9l\u00e9brations et de c\u00e9r\u00e9monies, comme moyen d'expression personnelle, pour d\u00e9montrer son statut social au sein de la tribu, pour pr\u00e9venir les maladies ou pour attirer un partenaire de vie.<\/p>\n

Le body painting joue un r\u00f4le pr\u00e9pond\u00e9rant dans les rites de passage, comme le passage de l'enfance \u00e0 l'\u00e2ge adulte, ainsi que lors des c\u00e9l\u00e9brations communautaires li\u00e9es \u00e0 l'agriculture ou au mariage. Les motifs, porteurs d'une signification personnelle, sont souvent cr\u00e9\u00e9s spontan\u00e9ment, transformant le corps en une \u0153uvre d'art qui refl\u00e8te un \u00e9tat psychologique, un statut social et une cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Mat\u00e9riaux naturels pour le dessin<\/strong><\/p>\n

La tribu utilise des mat\u00e9riaux naturels provenant de son environnement. De la craie blanche est m\u00e9lang\u00e9e \u00e0 des roches jaunes, du minerai de fer rouge et du charbon pour obtenir diff\u00e9rentes couleurs. Parfois, des jus de plantes, des cendres et des graisses animales sont ajout\u00e9s pour fixer les couleurs sur la peau et les rendre r\u00e9sistantes \u00e0 la chaleur du soleil.<\/p>\n

L'utilisation des ressources naturelles ne se limite pas \u00e0 la d\u00e9coration du corps, mais s'\u00e9tend \u00e0 la fabrication d'outils, d'armes et d'ornements en perles, coquillages et m\u00e9taux.<\/p>\n
