L\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne, par le biais du projet de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 maritime int\u00e9gr\u00e9e en Afrique de l\u2019Ouest connu sous le nom de \u201c SWIMES \u201d, a fourni deux vedettes pneumatiques rapides au gouvernement lib\u00e9rien dans le but de renforcer les capacit\u00e9s op\u00e9rationnelles des garde-c\u00f4tes lib\u00e9riens et de les aider \u00e0 relever les d\u00e9fis s\u00e9curitaires dans les eaux territoriales.<\/p>\n

La c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de passation de pouvoir s'est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e au quartier g\u00e9n\u00e9ral des garde-c\u00f4tes sur l'\u00eele Bushward, en pr\u00e9sence de repr\u00e9sentants du gouvernement, de diplomates et d'institutions de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, t\u00e9moignant de la coop\u00e9ration continue entre l'Union europ\u00e9enne et le Lib\u00e9ria dans le domaine de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 maritime.<\/p>\n

Renforcement des capacit\u00e9s des garde-c\u00f4tes lib\u00e9riens<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Ces nouveaux bateaux devraient contribuer \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer l'efficacit\u00e9 de la surveillance maritime et des patrouilles de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, en plus de soutenir les op\u00e9rations d'intervention rapide dans les eaux territoriales lib\u00e9riennes.<\/p>\n

Cet \u00e9quipement contribuera \u00e9galement \u00e0 renforcer la participation des garde-c\u00f4tes lib\u00e9riens aux op\u00e9rations conjointes au niveau r\u00e9gional, notamment dans la r\u00e9gion du golfe de Guin\u00e9e, qui est confront\u00e9e \u00e0 des d\u00e9fis s\u00e9curitaires croissants.<\/p>\n

Les autorit\u00e9s soulignent que le d\u00e9veloppement des capacit\u00e9s navales est un \u00e9l\u00e9ment cl\u00e9 pour prot\u00e9ger les ressources naturelles, assurer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de la navigation et renforcer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 nationale.<\/p>\n

Lutter contre les menaces maritimes dans le golfe de Guin\u00e9e<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Les pays du golfe de Guin\u00e9e sont confront\u00e9s \u00e0 de nombreuses menaces s\u00e9curitaires, notamment la p\u00eache ill\u00e9gale, la piraterie maritime, le trafic d'\u00eatres humains, le commerce illicite et la contrebande transfrontali\u00e8re.<\/p>\n

Dans ce contexte, le Lib\u00e9ria cherche \u00e0 renforcer ses capacit\u00e9s maritimes afin de prot\u00e9ger ses eaux territoriales et de lutter contre les activit\u00e9s ill\u00e9gales qui affectent l'\u00e9conomie, la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et la stabilit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Les experts estiment que le renforcement de la coop\u00e9ration r\u00e9gionale et le d\u00e9veloppement des capacit\u00e9s maritimes des \u00c9tats riverains du golfe de Guin\u00e9e sont des facteurs importants pour relever les d\u00e9fis s\u00e9curitaires croissants dans la r\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n

Le gouvernement salue le soutien europ\u00e9en<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

La ministre lib\u00e9rienne de la D\u00e9fense, la g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de brigade \u00e0 la retraite Geraldine Janet George, a exprim\u00e9 sa gratitude \u00e0 l'Union europ\u00e9enne et \u00e0 ses partenaires pour leur soutien constant au secteur de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 au Lib\u00e9ria, soulignant que cette aide contribuera \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer les performances des garde-c\u00f4tes et \u00e0 renforcer leurs capacit\u00e9s op\u00e9rationnelles.<\/p>\n

Pour sa part, l\u2019ambassadrice de l\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne au Lib\u00e9ria, Mme Anna Brzosovska, a affirm\u00e9 l\u2019engagement de l\u2019UE \u00e0 continuer de soutenir les efforts visant \u00e0 renforcer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 maritime et \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper les capacit\u00e9s nationales du pays.<\/p>\n

Le pr\u00e9sident lib\u00e9rien Joseph Boakai \u00e9tait repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 lors de la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de remise par le ministre de la Justice et pr\u00e9sident par int\u00e9rim Oswald Tueh, qui a d\u00e9crit l'aide europ\u00e9enne comme une \u00e9tape importante pour soutenir les efforts du Lib\u00e9ria visant \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger ses eaux territoriales et \u00e0 renforcer la stabilit\u00e9 maritime dans la r\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n
