Le secteur des t\u00e9l\u00e9communications en Afrique conna\u00eet une transformation radicale qui va au-del\u00e0 du simple d\u00e9veloppement des infrastructures pour atteindre une \u00e9tape plus complexe li\u00e9e \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re dont les services num\u00e9riques sont utilis\u00e9s et dont on tire profit.<\/p>\n

L'\u00e9conomie mobile redessine le paysage num\u00e9rique de l'Afrique.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Le rapport \u201c\u00a0Africa Mobile Economy 2026\u00a0\u201d, publi\u00e9 par la GSM Association le 16 juin, a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que les technologies et services mobiles ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 hauteur d\u2019environ 240 milliards de dollars \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9conomie africaine d\u2019ici 2025, soit 7,81 TP3T du PIB du continent, et que cette contribution devrait atteindre 290 milliards de dollars d\u2019ici 2030.<\/p>\n

Selon le rapport, le secteur des t\u00e9l\u00e9communications en Afrique entre dans une nouvelle phase apr\u00e8s une d\u00e9cennie d'expansion significative des r\u00e9seaux de couverture, l'accent \u00e9tant d\u00e9sormais mis sur l'utilisation concr\u00e8te et les avantages des services num\u00e9riques, compte tenu de la d\u00e9pendance croissante \u00e0 l'\u00e9gard de l'intelligence artificielle, des services num\u00e9riques et des interfaces de programmation ouvertes.<\/p>\n

Bien que les r\u00e9seaux \u00e0 large bande couvrent d\u00e9sormais la majeure partie de la population du continent, avec seulement 91 millions de personnes restant hors du service, le d\u00e9fi le plus important est le foss\u00e9 d'utilisation, car environ 63 millions d'Africains vivent dans des zones couvertes par les r\u00e9seaux mais n'utilisent pas Internet via leur t\u00e9l\u00e9phone mobile.<\/p>\n

Le rapport indique que cette r\u00e9alit\u00e9 refl\u00e8te un changement fondamental dans les priorit\u00e9s du secteur, o\u00f9 l'objectif ne se limite plus \u00e0 la construction d'infrastructures, mais vise plut\u00f4t \u00e0 permettre aux particuliers, aux entreprises et aux gouvernements de tirer pleinement parti des services num\u00e9riques disponibles.<\/p>\n

Il a \u00e9galement expliqu\u00e9 que le secteur de la t\u00e9l\u00e9phonie mobile est devenu l'un des moteurs les plus importants de l'\u00e9conomie africaine, cr\u00e9ant environ 13 millions d'emplois et contribuant aux recettes publiques estim\u00e9es \u00e0 45 milliards de dollars gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 diverses taxes et redevances.<\/p>\n

D\u2019apr\u00e8s le rapport, le secteur devrait poursuivre sa croissance, port\u00e9e par l\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration de la transformation num\u00e9rique, et gagner en influence dans l\u2019\u00e9conomie au cours des prochaines ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Dans le m\u00eame ordre d'id\u00e9es, une \u00e9tude de GSMA Intelligence a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que 791\u00a0000 entreprises de t\u00e9l\u00e9communications en Afrique consid\u00e8rent le fait de devenir des partenaires de num\u00e9risation des entreprises comme une priorit\u00e9 strat\u00e9gique, car leur r\u00f4le ne se limite plus \u00e0 fournir de la connectivit\u00e9, mais s'\u00e9tend au d\u00e9veloppement de plateformes num\u00e9riques, de services financiers et d'outils d'intelligence artificielle, en plus de mettre leurs r\u00e9seaux \u00e0 la disposition des d\u00e9veloppeurs via des interfaces de programmation d'applications (API) unifi\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Le directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la GSMA, Vivek Badrinath, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que le secteur des communications mobiles en Afrique entrait dans une nouvelle phase de d\u00e9veloppement, apr\u00e8s avoir r\u00e9ussi au cours de la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9cennie \u00e0 connecter des millions de personnes et d'entreprises, et s'orientait d\u00e9sormais vers la cr\u00e9ation d'une plus grande valeur gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l'intelligence artificielle, aux services num\u00e9riques et \u00e0 l'innovation.<\/p>\n

L'intelligence artificielle s'impose comme l'un des principaux moteurs de cette nouvelle \u00e8re, les op\u00e9rateurs de r\u00e9seau l'utilisant pour am\u00e9liorer les performances, d\u00e9velopper les services et optimiser l'exp\u00e9rience utilisateur. Cependant, le rapport souligne un d\u00e9fi majeur\u00a0: la diversit\u00e9 des langues africaines. En effet, le continent compte plus de 301\u00a0000 langues parmi les plus parl\u00e9es au monde, tandis que les mod\u00e8les d'intelligence artificielle mondiaux reposent majoritairement sur l'anglais et des langues disposant de donn\u00e9es limit\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Pour relever ce d\u00e9fi, la GSMA a lanc\u00e9 des programmes visant \u00e0 soutenir le d\u00e9veloppement de mod\u00e8les d'IA africains bas\u00e9s sur des donn\u00e9es locales, ce qui contribuera \u00e0 r\u00e9duire la fracture linguistique et \u00e0 promouvoir l'inclusion num\u00e9rique.<\/p>\n

L'initiative GSMA Open Gateway prend \u00e9galement une importance croissante, car elle fournit des API unifi\u00e9es aux op\u00e9rateurs de r\u00e9seau, ouvrant la voie au d\u00e9veloppement de nouveaux services dans le commerce \u00e9lectronique, les services financiers et le gouvernement num\u00e9rique, ainsi qu'\u00e0 l'am\u00e9lioration de la v\u00e9rification d'identit\u00e9 et de la pr\u00e9vention de la fraude.<\/p>\n

Malgr\u00e9 ces progr\u00e8s, le co\u00fbt des appareils et des services reste le principal obstacle \u00e0 l'augmentation des taux d'utilisation, comme le confirme le rapport\u00a0: les r\u00e9ductions d'imp\u00f4ts et l'am\u00e9lioration des comp\u00e9tences num\u00e9riques sont des facteurs cl\u00e9s pour acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer la diffusion de l'internet mobile.<\/p>\n

Les pr\u00e9visions indiquent que les entreprises de t\u00e9l\u00e9communications investiront plus de 76 milliards de dollars dans le d\u00e9veloppement des infrastructures entre 2024 et 2030, l'utilisation de la technologie 5G devant atteindre environ 211 TP3T de communications.<\/p>\n
