Le deuil r\u00e9gnait sur la ville de Gilgil, dans le centre du Kenya, o\u00f9 des centaines de citoyens, de familles de victimes et de repr\u00e9sentants du gouvernement ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie comm\u00e9morative en hommage aux 16 \u00e9l\u00e8ves d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9es dans le tragique incendie qui s'est d\u00e9clar\u00e9 fin mai \u00e0 l'\u00e9cole de filles Otomishi, l'une des catastrophes scolaires les plus douloureuses qu'ait connues le pays ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Des cercueils blancs, orn\u00e9s de fleurs et de photos des victimes, \u00e9taient align\u00e9s lors de la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie comm\u00e9morative. Le deuil et la tristesse \u00e9taient palpables parmi les personnes venues rendre hommage aux \u00e9tudiants. La Premi\u00e8re dame du Kenya, Rachel Ruto, \u00e9tait pr\u00e9sente et a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 ses condol\u00e9ances aux familles des victimes, affirmant la solidarit\u00e9 de la nation avec les familles endeuill\u00e9es face \u00e0 cette trag\u00e9die.<\/p>\n

Un incendie tragique a co\u00fbt\u00e9 la vie \u00e0 16 \u00e9tudiantes.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Un incendie s'est d\u00e9clar\u00e9 aux premi\u00e8res heures du 28 mai dans un dortoir de l'\u00e9cole pour filles Otomishi, dans le district de Gilgil, faisant 16 victimes et des dizaines de bless\u00e9s. Selon les premi\u00e8res constatations, le feu a pris dans un b\u00e2timent abritant plus de 200 \u00e9l\u00e8ves, provoquant la panique et entravant les op\u00e9rations d'\u00e9vacuation et de secours.<\/p>\n

L'incident a provoqu\u00e9 une vive \u00e9motion au Kenya. Les \u00e9quipes de secours et le Croissant-Rouge k\u00e9nyan se sont imm\u00e9diatement rendus dans les h\u00f4pitaux pour transporter les bless\u00e9s et apporter un soutien psychologique aux \u00e9tudiants et \u00e0 leurs familles. Le pr\u00e9sident k\u00e9nyan, William Ruto, a exprim\u00e9 la pleine solidarit\u00e9 du gouvernement avec les familles des victimes, qualifiant l'incident de trag\u00e9die nationale.<\/p>\n

L'enqu\u00eate laisse penser \u00e0 un incendie criminel.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

L'enqu\u00eate se poursuit et la police k\u00e9nyane a annonc\u00e9 privil\u00e9gier la piste criminelle. Les premiers \u00e9l\u00e9ments de l'enqu\u00eate r\u00e9v\u00e8lent que de la paraffine et des allumettes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9es pour d\u00e9clencher l'incendie pr\u00e8s d'une sortie du dortoir. Neuf \u00e9tudiants ont \u00e9t\u00e9 plac\u00e9s en garde \u00e0 vue et interrog\u00e9s. Les autorit\u00e9s cherchent toujours \u00e0 d\u00e9terminer les v\u00e9ritables motivations de l'incident.<\/p>\n

Ces \u00e9v\u00e9nements ont suscit\u00e9 l'indignation des familles des victimes, qui ont exig\u00e9 que toute la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 soit r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9e et que tous les responsables soient tenus pour responsables, qu'il s'agisse de personnes physiques ou morales charg\u00e9es de superviser l'\u00e9cole et ses proc\u00e9dures de s\u00e9curit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Cette catastrophe a remis sur le devant de la sc\u00e8ne la question de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 dans les internats kenyans, notamment en raison des incendies r\u00e9currents de ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Les rapports officiels ont point\u00e9 du doigt les probl\u00e8mes li\u00e9s \u00e0 la surpopulation dans les dortoirs et \u00e0 l'insuffisance des proc\u00e9dures d'urgence dans certains \u00e9tablissements scolaires, ce qui accro\u00eet le risque de tels incidents.<\/p>\n

Suite \u00e0 cet incident, le minist\u00e8re k\u00e9nyan de l'\u00c9ducation a pris des mesures urgentes, notamment la fermeture de centaines d'\u00e9coles pour des v\u00e9rifications de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, et la suspension des fonctions de direction des \u00e9tablissements scolaires en attendant la fin des enqu\u00eates.<\/p>\n

Les observateurs estiment que cette trag\u00e9die constitue un avertissement clair, soulignant la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de renforcer les normes de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 dans les \u00e9coles k\u00e9nyanes, de fournir du mat\u00e9riel de lutte contre les incendies et de mettre \u00e0 jour les plans d'\u00e9vacuation et d'urgence. Des militants et des organisations de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 civile ont \u00e9galement appel\u00e9 \u00e0 un examen approfondi des infrastructures scolaires afin d'\u00e9viter que de tels d\u00e9sastres ne se reproduisent.<\/p>\n
