Une enqu\u00eate \u00e9conomique publi\u00e9e jeudi a montr\u00e9 que l'activit\u00e9 du secteur priv\u00e9 au Kenya a continu\u00e9 de se contracter pour le troisi\u00e8me mois cons\u00e9cutif en mai 2026, dans un contexte de hausse des co\u00fbts d'exploitation et de baisse de la demande, refl\u00e9tant les d\u00e9fis auxquels sont confront\u00e9s les entreprises et les m\u00e9nages kenyans.<\/p>\n

L'inflation exerce une pression sur l'\u00e9conomie k\u00e9nyane et restreint l'activit\u00e9 du secteur priv\u00e9.<\/h1>\n

Selon l'indice des directeurs d'achat (PMI) publi\u00e9 par Stanbic Bank Kenya, l'indice a chut\u00e9 \u00e0 46,6 points en mai contre 49,4 points en avril, marquant le taux de contraction le plus rapide depuis juillet 2024. Les lectures inf\u00e9rieures \u00e0 50 points indiquent une contraction de l'activit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique, tandis que les lectures sup\u00e9rieures \u00e0 ce niveau refl\u00e8tent une croissance des entreprises.<\/p>\n

La banque a expliqu\u00e9 que la faiblesse de la demande int\u00e9rieure, la mont\u00e9e des pressions inflationnistes et le recul des nouvelles opportunit\u00e9s commerciales figuraient parmi les principaux facteurs \u00e0 l'origine de la baisse de l'indice. Elle a not\u00e9 que le secteur manufacturier constituait la seule exception parmi les principaux secteurs \u00e9conomiques, parvenant \u00e0 enregistrer une croissance limit\u00e9e, \u00e0 contre-courant de la tendance g\u00e9n\u00e9rale du march\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Ce recul a co\u00efncid\u00e9 avec une hausse du taux d'inflation annuel au Kenya, qui a atteint 6,71 billions de dollars en mai, contre 5,61 billions de dollars en avril, soit son niveau le plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 depuis plus de deux ans. Les analystes attribuent cette augmentation principalement \u00e0 la flamb\u00e9e des prix des carburants et des co\u00fbts de transport, dans un contexte de forte instabilit\u00e9 des march\u00e9s mondiaux de l'\u00e9nergie.<\/p>\n

Christopher Legilecho, \u00e9conomiste \u00e0 la Stanbeck Bank, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que l'aggravation des pressions inflationnistes a directement affect\u00e9 le pouvoir d'achat des consommateurs, entra\u00eenant un affaiblissement de la demande de biens et de services.<\/p>\n

Il a ajout\u00e9 que les entreprises \u00e9taient confront\u00e9es \u00e0 une hausse des co\u00fbts des intrants, des achats et du transport, ce qui a incit\u00e9 nombre d'entre elles \u00e0 augmenter les prix de leurs produits et services, accentuant ainsi la pression sur les consommateurs et affectant n\u00e9gativement le rythme de l'activit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique.<\/p>\n

Malgr\u00e9 un contexte \u00e9conomique actuel marqu\u00e9 par un net ralentissement, l'enqu\u00eate a montr\u00e9 que les entreprises conservent des perspectives d'avenir positives, port\u00e9es par l'espoir d'une am\u00e9lioration de la conjoncture \u00e9conomique dans les mois \u00e0 venir.<\/p>\n

Le Bureau k\u00e9nyan des statistiques avait pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment pr\u00e9dit que l'\u00e9conomie nationale conna\u00eetrait une croissance de 4,91 TP3T en 2026, contre 4,61 TP3T en 2025, ce qui t\u00e9moigne de l'espoir persistant d'une reprise \u00e9conomique malgr\u00e9 les d\u00e9fis li\u00e9s \u00e0 l'inflation et \u00e0 la hausse du co\u00fbt de la vie.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
