A man admitted Ugandan An American, Christopher Okello Onyom, 39, has been charged with stabbing four young children to death at a kindergarten in Uganda, claiming he believed the killings as human sacrifices would make him rich, prosecutors announced.
Indictment
According to reports, the indictment stated that Onium entered the kindergarten pretending to be a parent, then attacked the children with a knife, killing four of them, aged between 15 months and two and a half years.
Authorities indicated that the kindergarten was receiving malnourished and weak children, and that the crime had been meticulously planned over several days.
The accused is mentally competent
Medical investigations confirmed that the accused was mentally fit to stand trial, despite his belief that killing children would bring him wealth.
Relatives of the victims expressed their anger and outrage during the hearing, as an angry mob tried to hang him before he was arrested.
In an official statement, Ugandan Army Chief of Staff Muhoozi Kaynirugaba said that authorities would seek the death penalty for Onyom. The accused is currently being held in pretrial detention, and a trial date has not yet been set.
