Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, received a telephone call today from Therese Wagner, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo, during which they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and exchanged views on a number of regional issues of common interest.
Congolese praise for Egyptian support in the fight against the Ebola virus
During the call, Minister Abdel-Aati affirmed Egypt’s pride in the historical relations that unite the two countries, and the tangible development that has taken place in recent years, expressing his aspiration to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation in various political, economic and developmental fields, and to build on the positive momentum that relations between the two countries are witnessing in a way that achieves the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
For her part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo expressed her country’s sincere thanks and appreciation to the Egyptian political leadership, appreciating the medical and food aid and shipments of medicines provided by Egypt to support efforts to confront the Ebola virus, stressing that these noble positions reflect the strength of the brotherly relations between the two countries and embody the Egyptian role in supporting the Democratic Republic of Congo in various circumstances.
Water security
With regard to water security, the two ministers agreed on the importance of adhering to the rules and principles of international law governing transboundary waterways, foremost among them the principle of not causing harm and prior notification, and upholding the spirit of consensus and brotherhood to restore inclusiveness to the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) and to work to make the consultative process in the initiative a success, in a way that contributes to strengthening cooperation and integration and achieving common interests for the basin countries, and in a way that supports security, stability and sustainable development for their peoples.
