Egypt affirms its support for the unity of Somalia and rejects any infringement upon its sovereignty.

Egyptian Foreign Minister meets with Somali President

As part of the moves Diplomacy Egypt’s efforts to promote regional stability saw Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty hold an important meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, where the depth of bilateral relations was emphasized and any violations affecting the unity and sovereignty of Somalia were rejected.

Egyptian-Somali meeting to enhance cooperation 

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry explained in a statement on Saturday that, based on the directives of the political leadership, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration met with the Somali President, conveying the greetings of the Egyptian leadership headed by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and its wishes for Somalia to achieve more security and stability. Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening joint cooperation in a way that serves the interests of the two peoples and supports the stability of the Horn of Africa region.

During the meeting, Egypt reiterated its firm support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, rejecting any unilateral actions that could undermine these principles. It also affirmed its commitment to continuing its support for Somali national institutions across various sectors.

Egypt expressed its rejection of any steps that constitute a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, stressing that such measures threaten regional stability and undermine international efforts to maintain security in the region.

Egypt affirmed its keenness to expand the horizons of economic cooperation with Somalia, especially through increasing Egyptian exports, particularly in the fields of pharmaceuticals and industrial products, while supporting development projects through various Egyptian institutions and programs.

Egypt also renewed its commitment to supporting Somalia in facing security challenges, especially terrorism and extremism, through capacity-building programs and training of national cadres, in addition to supporting the African Union Mission to Stabilize, with Egyptian participation in these efforts imminent.
