The joint security committee in Abéché, the capital of the Ouaddai region in Chad, announced the results of a large-scale security campaign carried out during the period from June 13 to July 27, which resulted in the seizure of weapons, ammunition and prohibited materials, in addition to the arrest of a number of people suspected of being involved in illegal activities.
A security operation in Abéché uncovered an arsenal of weapons and ammunition, and 14 suspects were referred to the judiciary.
During the presentation of the seized items to the media, the committee explained that the operation enabled the seizure of 74 weapons of different calibers, 631 rounds of ammunition for “AKM” rifles, two “RPG” projectiles, as well as 21 vehicles related to customs violations.
The seized items also included eight bags of prohibited materials, including counterfeit drinks, 29 bottles of liquid drugs, a bottle of "Colos" drink, in addition to six motorcycles, 12 mobile phones and other seized items.
The security committee reported that the campaign also resulted in the arrest of 30 suspects, 14 of whom were referred to the Public Prosecution to complete the legal procedures, while investigations are still ongoing with the rest of the detainees.
This operation comes as part of the efforts made by the security authorities to combat the spread of unlicensed weapons and trafficking in prohibited materials and to enhance security and stability in the region.
