On Monday morning, the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who is also the President of the Union of Sahel States, received the heads of parliaments of the member states of the Union of Sahel States.
In Ouagadougou, to move forward with the establishment of the Union Parliament, the President of the Consultative Council for Re-establishment in Niger, Dr. Mamoudou Harouna Dingari, and the President of the National Transitional Council in Mali, General Malick Diaw, accompanied by Dr. Ousmane Bogoma, President of the People's Legislative Assembly in Burkina Faso, met to receive guidance from the President of the Union.

The spokesperson for the delegation, the Speaker of the People’s Legislative Assembly, Dr. Othman Bogoma, noted that “on September 18 and 19, 2025, the Speakers of the African Union and Southern African Parliaments met in Ouagadougou to draft the texts relating to the Confederation’s session, and these texts were subsequently adopted by the Conference of Heads of State on December 23, 2025 in Bamako.”.
According to him, the purpose of the meeting with the President of Burkina Faso was to obtain advice and guidance before the start of the session.
He added: “We have just received the green light from the President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, to move forward quickly with the establishment of this confederation session. In the coming days we will begin appointing members of parliament, and we will hold the session as soon as possible.”.
Dr. Bogoma explained that the goal of this confederal parliament is to complete the institutional framework of the Sahel Economic Union by providing direct representation for the people. It will be responsible for overseeing the Union's activities, informing citizens about current issues, and amplifying their voices in the Sahel region.
