In a scene reflecting the historical stature and pivotal role of the Egyptian state in its African surroundings, and affirming the deep-rooted ties between Egypt and the peoples of the African continent, the Grand Hall at Cairo University hosts the Egyptian state's celebration of... Africa Day The sixty-third anniversary, commemorating the founding of the Organization of African Unity on May 25, 1963, will be held at 6 pm on Saturday, May 23.

The celebration is held under the auspices of Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Abdel-Aziz Qansouh, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, President of Cairo University, with a high-level attendance of ministers, ambassadors, senior officials, public figures, representatives of African countries, and African students studying at various Egyptian universities, so that the university may renew its mission as one of the most important Egyptian soft power and academic and cultural bridges extending towards Africa throughout its long history.

Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek affirmed that Cairo University’s hosting of this celebration reflects its historical standing and its pioneering role in supporting Egyptian-African cooperation, stemming from the university’s deep belief in the importance of building bridges of scientific, cultural and human communication with the peoples of the African continent, in line with the directions of the Egyptian state and its political leadership towards strengthening partnership with African countries in various fields.

The President of Cairo University explained that the university has placed the file of African cooperation at the forefront of its priorities since its establishment in 1908, noting that the university has a distinguished academic and scientific legacy in this field, embodied in the College of African Graduate Studies, which is one of the oldest academic institutions specializing in African affairs, which was established in 1947 under the name of the “Institute of Sudanese Studies”, and has contributed throughout its history to preparing and qualifying generations of African cadres and leaders who have assumed high positions in their countries.

African studies have produced prominent leaders on the continent.
Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek affirmed the university’s belief that building the future of the African continent begins with investing in the African people, by preparing a conscious and qualified generation of leaders and researchers capable of leading the development process and achieving the aspirations of their people, in line with the goals of Agenda 2063 and the vision of the new republic under the leadership of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
