The Republic announced Algeria A new licensing round for oil and gas exploration was launched for 2026, in a move aimed at boosting national production and attracting more foreign investment in the vital energy sector.
The official announcement of the Algerian 2026 bidding round, according to the Algerian News Agency, came during a ceremony held in the capital, Algiers, in the presence of representatives of major international energy companies, reflecting a growing interest in the Algerian market in light of global transformations in the energy sector.
The bidding round includes seven exploration blocks spread across several strategic regions, most notably Ouargla, Illizi, Touggourt, and El Bayadh, areas known for their hydrocarbon potential. Officials confirmed that these sites contain promising reserves estimated at hundreds of millions of barrels of oil, in addition to significant quantities of natural gas, enhancing the attractiveness of these offerings to international investors.
Algeria seeks to boost production and attract foreign investment
According to the announced timetable, the technical phase of the bidding process is scheduled to begin on June 1, when tender documents and presentations will be made available online, followed by a series of data and clarification sessions that will continue until October 31, giving interested companies ample opportunity to study the opportunities available.

The Algerian authorities have set November 26 as the deadline for submitting bids, with hydrocarbon contracts to be signed with the state-owned Sonatrach company on January 31 of next year, according to flexible contractual formulas that include production sharing or participation agreements, depending on the nature of each sector.
This move comes as part of a broader strategy adopted by Algeria to strengthen its primary sector and maintain its position as a key player in global energy markets, especially in light of the increasing demand for natural gas as an alternative energy source.
In this context, Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab affirmed that the new bidding round will contribute to supporting global energy security and enhancing Algeria’s position as a regional energy hub, noting that his country seeks quality partnerships with international investors to develop its natural resources efficiently and sustainably.
