Egypt participated in the second session of the International Forum for Reviewing the Implementation of the Goals Global Compact<\/a> For safe, orderly and regular migration, which was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the forum is the main international platform for addressing progress in implementing the 23 goals of the Compact, and for discussing all aspects of international migration diplomacy.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Amr El-Sherbiny, Assistant Foreign Minister<\/a> Egypt\u2019s statement to the Forum on Multilateral Affairs and International Security reviewed the tireless efforts made by Egypt through its various institutions over the past four years since the second session of the Forum in 2022 in the areas of migration governance, including combating illegal migration and migrant smuggling, highlighting that Egypt, under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, has developed a comprehensive national approach based on achieving a balance between respecting the sovereignty of states, protecting human rights, and maximizing the developmental impact of migration, in line with Egypt\u2019s Vision 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the African Union\u2019s Agenda 2063.<\/p>\n

Egypt emphasizes the importance of sharing burdens and responsibilities among countries.<\/h2>\n

The statement also addressed the progress made by Egypt at the legislative and institutional levels in implementing the goals of the Global Compact for Migration, highlighting its hosting of millions of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers on its territory within the framework of a community-based policy without establishing camps, and its commitment to providing them with basic services without discrimination, while stressing the importance of strengthening the principle of sharing burdens and responsibilities between countries to enable the sustainability of these efforts and services, as well as supporting regional and international cooperation to address all challenges related to migration.<\/p>\n

As part of its active participation in the second session of the Global Forum on Migration, Egypt organized a side event with the African Union Mission and the International Organization for Migration. This event reviewed the outcomes of the Ministerial Meeting of Leading African States in Implementing the Global Compact for Migration, held in Cairo on April 1, 2016, and highlighted its contributions to strengthening joint African coordination and conveying a unified message from the continent's countries to the Forum.
