Commercial transport traffic is witnessing Juba-Nimule Road<\/span><\/span>The link between the capital South<\/a> Sudanese Juba<\/span><\/span> and city Nimoli<\/span><\/span> The border crossing, which is South Sudan's only land lifeline, has seen a marked escalation, with truck drivers continuing their strike in protest against the deteriorating situation. The situation<\/a> Security concerns and the proliferation of illegal checkpoints have led to a near-complete disruption of the movement of supplies.<\/p>\n

The competent authorities at the Nimule border crossing issued immediate directives to remove all illegal checkpoints scattered along the road, along with strengthening security measures to ensure the safety of drivers and goods.<\/p>\n

Frequent demands from drivers<\/span><\/h4>\n

The reports explained that this step was in response to repeated demands from drivers who complained of financial extortion and the imposition of illegal fees, in addition to restrictions that hinder the movement of trucks on this vital artery of the national economy.<\/p>\n

The strike entered its sixth day, with drivers bringing transport to a near standstill, causing hundreds of trucks to pile up on both sides of the road and disrupting the flow of essential goods.<\/p>\n

The situation has raised growing concerns about fuel and food shortages in local markets within South Sudan<\/span><\/span>This is especially true given the country's heavy reliance on imports via this route.<\/p>\n

Claims for compensation<\/span><\/h4>\n

In a further escalation, the drivers demanded compensation for one of their colleagues who was attacked by armed criminal gangs known locally as \u201cNigizers\u201d in Nimule, where he was assaulted and his truck was looted.<\/p>\n

For her part, she confirmed South Sudan Freight Forwarders Association<\/span><\/span> The strike will continue until the demands are met, noting that the authorities are engaged in consultations with representatives of the drivers and the private sector to reach solutions that will end the crisis.<\/p>\n

Despite these efforts, no formal agreement has been announced yet, which keeps the stalemate going and increases economic pressures.<\/p>\n
