General Salifou Mody, Niger's Minister of National Defense, confirmed that Security situation<\/a>In the country, it is \u201ccalm\u201d and \u201dunder control,\u201d while acknowledging that Niger has been \u201cat war\u201d since regaining its security sovereignty.<\/p>\n

This came during an interview with the official television channel RTN (Tele Sahel).<\/p>\n

23,000 soldiers are deployed daily on the ground.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Minister of Defense explained that \u201c23,000 soldiers are deployed daily on the ground\u201d in various national operations to secure the territory.<\/p>\n

Decentralization and Empowerment Strategy<\/strong><\/p>\n

The minister explained the strategy implemented since Niger regained control over its \u201csecurity sovereignty\u201d: \u201cWhen we took over the responsibility of defending our country, we had to make reforms and reorganize our systems. Because you know that the biggest mistake is to hand over your security to another party, especially another country.\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said: This strategy is based on three pillars: \u201cWe gave more autonomy\u201d to the heads of tactical operations, \u201cWe also gave more responsibility to these different military leaders,\u201d and \u201dWe then made a thoughtful adjustment by working with some of our volunteer citizens, who are patriots.\u201d.<\/p>\n

He explained: \u201cDecentralization of responsibilities and leadership has been implemented within these operational areas. At a higher level, centralized command has been implemented for all defense and security forces.\u201d.<\/p>\n

When asked about the almost daily attacks in some areas, the minister stressed the vastness of the country and logistical constraints, saying: \u201cOur citizens must realize that the army, the gendarmerie, and even other defense and security forces cannot cover every village.\u201d.<\/p>\n

He noted that Niger comprises \u201capproximately 32,000 administrative villages,\u201d not counting camps and nomadic groups, and that \u201cthe total number of defense and security forces personnel did not exceed 20,000 before approximately decade<\/a>\u201c.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cWe often see two villages separated by 30 kilometers, but reaching them can take two or three hours,\u201d explaining that the attackers \u201conly need 15 to 20 minutes to carry out the attack.\u201d.<\/p>\n

Niamey airport attack was "premeditated"\u201c<\/strong><\/p>\n

Referring to the attack on Niamey airport and Tahoua air base, the minister described the incident in the capital as a \u201cpremeditated attack,\u201d stressing that \u201cattacks happen all over the world, regardless of the security measures taken.\u201d.<\/p>\n

He asked: \u201cHow many motorcycles are there in the city of Niamey? How many people, how many individuals, are committed to the cause of these financiers?\u201d hinting at the complicity of \u201cinternal enemies.\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cNo one could travel such a long distance and reach Niamey without being detected.\u201d \u201cThis means there are people who support this attack, indeed, who supported it,\u201d he continued, adding that \u201cthe rapid response of our forces enabled us to neutralize the main perpetrators and arrest several of those who reported what happened and those who sent them.\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are at war.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The minister pointed out that \u201csince we decided to ensure the defense of our country and its security ourselves, since the moment we decided that our sovereignty belongs to us, we became a target and entered a phase of war.\u201d.<\/p>\n

He explained, \u201cWar is a conflict of wills, between two or more wills,\u201d condemning the use of \u201call means\u201d against Niger: \u201cinterventions, blockades, media, international institutions, and NGOs.\u201d.<\/p>\n

In response to the French General Lecointre<\/strong><\/p>\n

Addressing French General Francois Lecointre, who raised the possibility of recolonizing the Sahel region, Mody stated: \u201cThis general could not stop the advance of armed men on motorcycles in Mali\u2026 and he will not come one day to tell us that they will return to colonize Africa.\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cI tell him he\u2019s trying to come.\u201d He continued, \u201cI think what awaits them in the Sahel, compared to Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam, will be hell,\u201d emphasizing, \u201cIf we are determined, every tree, every citizen, will be an obstacle for those who come after us.\u201d.<\/p>\n

Honoring the victims of the defense and security forces<\/strong><\/p>\n

The minister praised the victims of the defense and security forces, saying: \u201cWe have loyal men, men who are losing their lives right now, simply because their vehicle ran over an explosive device while driving.\u201d.<\/p>\n

Modi announced that the Ministry of Defense would be open to civilian talent and that priority would be given to defense industries, saying: \u201cIt is not only about creating jobs, but it enables us, above all, to make the most of everything we have, and all the efforts of our young people, so that we can manufacture drones and armored vehicles.\u201d.<\/p>\n

Regarding equipment purchases, the minister revealed that Niger buys \u201cfrom all willing countries,\u201d explaining that \u201ca European country and a country in the United States\u201d refuse to deliver the equipment \u201ceven though we have paid for it.\u201d.<\/p>\n
