The Egyptian-Moroccan relationship is one of the oldest Arab ties, as Cairo and Rabat share deep historical and cultural roots. Over time, these relations have been characterized by cooperation and understanding in various fields, whether political, economic, or cultural, within the framework of a shared Arab and Islamic identity.<\/p>\n

Egyptian-Moroccan Committee<\/h2>\n

The Egyptian-Moroccan ties are not limited to what appears in official circles, but extend to include cultural and popular exchange, as the two peoples share similar customs and traditions and a spirit of solidarity and continuous communication.<\/p>\n

Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch is currently on a high-level visit to Cairo, accompanied by a number of ministers and officials from Rabat. Many see this visit as a bright spot in the brotherly relations between Rabat and Cairo, as it coincides with the convening of the first session of the Egyptian-Moroccan Coordination and Follow-up Committee, in an important development between the two countries.<\/p>\n

The Egyptian-Moroccan Committee and the relationship between the two countries<\/h3>\n

During his stay in Cairo, Akhannouch held talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, with the participation of a high-level Moroccan delegation including Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad Nasser Bourita, Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah, Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka, and Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests Ahmed Bouari.<\/p>\n

The Moroccan delegation also includes the Minister of Industry and Trade, Riad Mazour, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed El Mahdi Bensaid, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, Karim Zidan, and the Moroccan Ambassador to Egypt, Mohamed Ait Ouali.<\/p>\n

Agreements between Egypt and Morocco<\/h3>\n

During the first session of the Coordination and Follow-up Committee between Egypt and Morocco, the heads of government of the two countries witnessed the signing ceremony of a number of documents in several fields with the aim of supporting and strengthening bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.<\/p>\n

A protocol for industrial cooperation was signed between the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, along with an agreement for cooperation in the field of sports, an agreement for cooperation in the field of youth, a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the cultural field, and the executive program for cooperation in this field. In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed to enhance bilateral investment relations between the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development.<\/p>\n

A memorandum of understanding was also signed for cooperation in combating desertification, an agreement on mutual administrative assistance in the customs field, an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion with respect to taxes on income, a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the Institute of Diplomatic Studies of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Diplomatic Academy of Morocco, as well as a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of housing, a protocol of cooperation in the field of electricity and new and renewable energies, a protocol of cooperation in the health and pharmaceutical field, and a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of tourism.<\/p>\n

On the political front, the Arab Republic of Egypt affirmed its support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its endorsement of Security Council Resolution 2797 and a mutually agreed political solution regarding the issue of the Moroccan Sahara. This position, which was expressed in the minutes of the first session of the Moroccan-Egyptian Coordination and Follow-up Committee, enshrined Cairo\u2019s support for the current UN roadmap that places the Moroccan autonomy initiative at the heart of the settlement process.<\/p>\n

Culturally, several meetings were held between the ministers of the two governments, where the discussions focused on activating mechanisms for cultural cooperation through the exchange of experiences in the field of restoration and maintenance of tangible and intangible heritage, and enhancing mutual participation in major cultural events in both countries, in addition to studying ways of joint production and facilitating the work of professionals in the film and creative arts sector, in a way that serves regional and international cultural influence.<\/p>\n

In addition, ways to develop joint youth work through the exchange of models for managing training, youth and innovation centers, while promoting youth diplomacy and supporting pioneering initiatives and startups in youth fields, while sharing the Moroccan experience in supporting and economically empowering youth.<\/p>\n

On the international level, the foreign ministers of the two countries, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty from the Egyptian side and his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, met within the framework of periodic consultation and coordination between the two brotherly countries and in preparation for the convening of the first session of the Egyptian-Moroccan Coordination and Follow-up Committee.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the two ministers affirmed the deep fraternal ties between Egypt and Morocco, praising the remarkable progress in relations across various political, economic, and trade sectors. They emphasized their shared commitment to further enhancing partnership in all fields, thereby serving the mutual interests of the two brotherly nations. The meeting also addressed preparations for the inaugural session of the Joint Coordination and Follow-up Committee at the level of the two countries' prime ministers, which aims to broaden the scope of joint cooperation and fulfill the aspirations of both nations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

They exchanged views on a number of regional issues of common interest, including the developments of military escalation in the region and the dangerous turning point the region is witnessing. Minister Abdel-Aty reviewed the efforts undertaken by Egypt in cooperation with regional and international partners to reduce escalation and tension and attempts to spare the region the expansion of the conflict and further instability, as well as the latest developments in the Palestinian issue and regional developments, including in Sudan and Libya. Emphasis was placed on the importance of continuing coordination and consultation in a way that contributes to supporting regional security and stability and strengthening joint Arab and African action to deal with current challenges and achieve common interests.<\/p>\n

In light of the outputs of the joint committee\u2019s work, it is clear that the partnership between Egypt and Morocco is no longer limited to traditional frameworks of cooperation, but is moving towards an integrated model based on diversifying areas of coordination and deepening common interests.<\/p>\n

The signed agreements and political understandings reflect a genuine desire on the part of both countries' leaderships to move relations to a more dynamic phase, based on economic integration, cultural rapprochement, and political coordination regionally and internationally.
