<\/p>\nOn June 6, 2026, the Government of the Republic of Ghana received the second batch of Ghanaian citizens who were evacuated from the Republic of South Africa due to xenophobic attacks.<\/p>\n
Upon their arrival, they were received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honorable Samuel Okudzito Ablako (Member of Parliament), the Minister of Health, the Honorable Kwabena Minta Akandoh (Member of Parliament), the Minister of Women, Children and Social Protection, the Honorable Agnes Na Momo Lartey (Member of Parliament), and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honorable James Giaki Queson (Member of Parliament).<\/p>\n

The reception was also attended by the Deputy Director General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and a number of senior government officials.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honorable Mr. Ablako, warmly welcomed the displaced persons, conveying the greetings of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and commending their resilience and courage in the face of the challenges they have endured. He reaffirmed the Government\u2019s unwavering commitment to the well-being, dignity, and safety of all Ghanaian citizens, emphasizing that no Ghanaian will be abandoned in times of hardship.<\/p>\n
The Minister expressed his appreciation to all concerned parties, including the Ministries of Health, Women and Children Affairs and Social Protection, the National Disaster Management Authority, Ghana Airports Company Limited, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, the International Organization for Migration, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria, for their coordinated efforts that contributed to the success of the evacuation operation.<\/p>\n

His Excellency Mr. Ablako assured the displaced persons that the necessary arrangements had been made for their medical care, psychological and social support, and reintegration into society. He also revealed that the government, in cooperation with the private sector, is working to provide job opportunities for the displaced to support their full reintegration into society.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Women, Children and Social Protection, the Honorable Lartey, affirmed the government's commitment to the well-being of displaced persons and their reintegration into society. She encouraged them to seize the opportunities available in Ghana and urged them to utilize their skills and experience to contribute to national development.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Minister of Health, the Honorable Akandoh, urged displaced persons to take advantage of ongoing national health interventions, including free primary healthcare and other health support programs, to facilitate their reintegration into society. He noted that health officials are ready to conduct medical examinations, provide counseling, and respond to emergencies.<\/p>\n
