Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, met today, Monday, with Annette Weber, the European Union envoy to the Horn of Africa, to discuss developments in the Horn of Africa region and to promote security, stability and development in the region.

Supporting Sudan and its stability

Minister Abdel-Aty stressed Egypt’s firm position in support of Sudan’s security, stability, unity and territorial integrity and support for its national institutions, stressing the importance of neighboring countries respecting Sudan’s sovereignty and security and not interfering in its internal affairs, as well as the need to stop all forms of escalation, prioritize the Sudanese national interest and engage seriously in a Sudanese-owned process that leads to a comprehensive political settlement that preserves Sudan’s sovereignty and meets the aspirations of its people for security, stability and development.

The two sides also discussed developments in the Horn of Africa region, where the Foreign Minister stressed the importance of maintaining the security and stability of the region, supporting national institutions and preserving the unity and territorial integrity of countries, stressing the rejection of any policies or measures that would compromise Somalia’s sovereignty or undermine the foundations of regional stability, and rejecting any attempts to impose parallel entities that conflict with Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity.
