Egypt provides humanitarian aid to Madagascar to address the effects of Cyclone Jizani

The aid shipment includes various medical supplies and food items.

Egypt continues its humanitarian support For Africa As part of its humanitarian and developmental role towards sister African countries, the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development sent a shipment of medical and food aid to the Republic of Madagascar, in support of those affected by Cyclone “Jizani”, which caused widespread losses and severe damage to a number of Malagasy cities.

The aid shipment includes various medical supplies, along with basic food items, in support of relief and humanitarian response efforts in the disaster-stricken areas.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Office for Risk and Disaster Management in Madagascar received the aid immediately upon its arrival, in the presence of the Egyptian Embassy in Madagascar, where great appreciation was expressed for the support provided by Egypt in these circumstances.

This initiative comes as an extension of Egypt’s active role in supporting its brothers in the African continent, reflecting Egypt’s historical commitment to the continent and its keenness to enhance joint cooperation in facing the challenges arising from crises and natural disasters.

Relations between Egypt and Madagascar have witnessed positive and remarkable development, especially in recent years, as Cairo is keen to enhance cooperation with sister African countries within the framework of its developmental and humanitarian role.

At the Nairobi Summit held in Kenya two days ago, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with the President of Madagascar, where Egypt’s support for achieving sustainable development in Madagascar was emphasized, and opportunities for cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, infrastructure, agriculture, and health were discussed. President Sisi held several bilateral meetings with the Presidents of Kenya, Chad, and Madagascar, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. The meetings addressed bilateral cooperation, regional security and stability issues, and reform of the international financial system.

Egypt is offering training grants to build the capacities of Malagasy personnel, and positions were coordinated during the COP 27 summit to support African continent initiatives in the areas of water, agriculture and climate change.

There are flights from Egypt to Madagascar (via Cairo Airport), and the journey takes an average of 11 to 14 hours.

Madagascar is an island in the Indian Ocean off the east and south coast of Africa, east of Mozambique, and is the fourth largest island in the world by area.
