Rwanda: Presidential presence inaugurates continental tournament at BK Arena

The Rwandan capital, Kigali, witnessed a distinctive sporting atmosphere with the launch of the 47th edition of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) Men's Club Championship.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame attended the opening match, in a scene that reflects the great official support for the sport and its role in enhancing Rwanda’s continental presence at the organizational and hosting level.

Rwanda wins 3-0

In the opening match, APR Volleyball Club put on a strong performance against their Zimbabwean counterparts, Black Rhinos, finishing the match with three straight sets (3-0).

The victory gave the Rwandan fans a perfect start and confirmed the readiness of the country's representative to compete strongly for the continental title.

A tournament that brings together the continent's elite clubs

The tournament will take place from April 22 to May 2, 2026, with the participation of 24 of the most prominent volleyball clubs in Africa.

This edition represents an important sporting platform for the exchange of experiences and technical levels between different schools of the game, and it also reflects the rapid development of African volleyball at the club level.

A notable Rwandan presence with four clubs

Rwandan participation is not limited to one team, as the country is represented by four clubs: APR VC, Police VC, REG VC, and Kepler VC.

This strong presence reflects the strength of the local league and the depth of the competitive base in Rwanda, as well as the continental confidence in the capabilities of Rwandan clubs.

Sport as a bridge for African rapprochement

The importance of the tournament goes beyond the limits of sports competition, turning into a space for cultural exchange and rapprochement between African peoples. Rwanda's hosting of this major event highlights the role of sports in strengthening relations between countries, supporting sports tourism, and consolidating Kigali's image as a preferred destination for continental championships.

The organization at BK Arena confirms the high level of logistical readiness and sends a clear message about the ability of African countries to host major sporting events with professional standards.

With a strong start and a well-deserved victory, the tournament looks promising with exciting competitions until its conclusion on May 2nd.
