Bahurutshe Cultural Village continues to establish itself as one of Botswana’s premier tourist and cultural destinations, offering visitors an integrated experience to learn about the rich heritage of the Bahurutshe people through interactive activities that reflect the customs and traditions passed down through generations.
The village is located in the town of Mmankgodi, about 40 kilometers from the capital Gaborone. It was established in 2005 with the aim of preserving the local cultural heritage and introducing visitors to the traditional lifestyle of the region’s inhabitants, as part of supporting cultural tourism and promoting national identity.
An interactive experience that transports visitors to the heart of local culture
The village offers visitors the opportunity to participate in a wide range of heritage activities, including folk dance performances, traditional storytelling sessions, tasting local foods, and playing the popular games for which local communities in Botswana are known.
Visitors can also learn about traditional hut construction methods, wall decoration techniques, and manual grain grinding, in addition to observing a number of daily practices that were part of the lives of the inhabitants in the past.
On some days, the village offers the opportunity to witness the traditional methods of milking cattle and to learn about the herbal treatment methods used by traditional healers, giving the visitor an integrated cultural experience that reflects the uniqueness of the local community.
