The Syndicate of Cinematic Professions will host an important preparatory meeting tomorrow at its headquarters, with the participation of a number of prominent artistic and cultural figures, to discuss the executive steps for activating the right of public performance in Egypt, in a step aimed at strengthening the system for protecting the rights of creators and supporting workers in the artistic sector.

The meeting comes as part of the efforts made by artistic unions and intellectual property institutions to ensure that artists obtain their legal rights, in line with the developments taking place in the art and creative industry at the regional and international levels.

A prominent artistic and union presence

The meeting will witness the participation of a number of figures from the artistic and union scene, including MP and artist Yasser Galal, Dr. Ashraf Zaki, head of the Actors Syndicate, writer Mosaad Fouda, head of the Cinema Professions Syndicate, director Omar Abdel Aziz, head of the Federation of Artistic Syndicates, writer Ayman Salama, head of the Arab Drama Writers Association, and Counselor Madi Tawfiq Al-Daqn, head of the Sons of Egyptian Artists Association.

This broad participation reflects the importance of the issue at hand, and the keenness of artistic institutions to reach clear mechanisms for implementing the right to public performance in a way that achieves justice for workers in the creative field.

Discussion of mechanisms for implementing the right to public performance

The meeting aims to develop a practical framework for activating the right to public performance as one of the fundamental rights of performing artists and creators, enabling them to obtain financial and moral rights in return for the reuse of their artwork or its display across various media and platforms.

The participants also discuss the organizational and legislative steps necessary to implement this right, and the coordination mechanisms between unions and relevant authorities to ensure effective implementation in a way that serves the interests of artists and preserves their rights.

Experts believe that activating this right represents an important development in the intellectual property protection system in Egypt, especially with the great expansion in the use of artistic content through digital media and modern platforms.

Parliamentary support for developing the artistic rights system

The meeting comes after the Senate approved the proposal submitted by MP and artist Yasser Galal regarding activating the right of public performance for performing artists, and referred it to the government to take the necessary measures.

Yasser Galal stressed that this step represents a new victory for Egyptian artists, noting that the application of the right to public performance in accordance with Intellectual Property Protection Law No. 82 of 2002 constitutes a long-awaited justice for performing artists who have contributed over decades to enriching cultural and artistic life.

Developing the intellectual property system

Observers believe that activating the right to public performance would enhance the creative environment in Egypt and support the sustainability of cultural and artistic industries, as well as provide fair mechanisms to protect the rights of artists and creators.

This move also represents an important step towards modernizing the intellectual property system in accordance with international standards, and enhances Egypt’s position as a major center for artistic and cultural production in the region.
