The Chadian government has stepped up its pressure on telecommunications companies and operators, demanding urgent action to improve network quality and expand coverage across the country, amid growing complaints from citizens about poor services and frequent outages that affect economic activities and daily services.

These demands were made during a meeting chaired by the Minister of Communications, Digital Economy and Digital Upgrading, Haliki Shua Mehmet, in the presence of a high-level international delegation representing the communications sector, along with officials from regulatory bodies and relevant state institutions.

Chad intensifies pressure on telecom operators

During the meeting, the minister stressed that telecommunications services are no longer just a technical or commercial sector, but have become one of the main pillars of economic and social development, given their increasing role in supporting business, government services, education and health, as well as their contribution to enhancing security and stability.

He noted that the government is looking forward to seeing tangible results on the ground through new investments that contribute to raising the efficiency of networks and improving the quality of service for users, especially in areas that suffer from weak coverage or limited access to modern communications services.

The minister also stressed the importance of finding sustainable solutions for operating the communications infrastructure, calling for the use of alternative energy sources to overcome the challenges related to electricity supply and to ensure the continuity of services in various regions.

As part of the sector development plans, the Chadian official called for accelerating the utilization of the national fiber optic network and expanding its use to serve cities and regions along its route, which would contribute to improving internet speed and enhancing the digital transformation that the government seeks to achieve.

For their part, representatives of telecommunications companies and partner institutions reviewed the volume of investments and projects that have been implemented over the past years, stressing their commitment to continuing to develop the network infrastructure and working to improve the level of services provided to subscribers.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chadian authorities stressed the need to adhere to the announced commitments and implement the projects according to clear timetables, emphasizing that improving telecommunications services is a national priority at the present stage, given its pivotal role in supporting economic development, promoting digital transformation, and improving the quality of life for citizens throughout the country.
