Wick challenges Turaki faction over the legitimacy of the People's Democratic Party of Nigeria

Legitimacy of the People's Democratic Party of Nigeria

Nisom Wick, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria, challenged the pro-Taminu Turaki faction of the People's Democratic Party to visit the party's national headquarters if they were truly its leaders.

Wick made this statement during the 108th meeting of the faction's National Executive Committee in Abuja on Monday.

The minister, who is the national leader of his faction within the party, praised the National Executive Committee, led by Abdul Rahman Mohammed, for securing the party headquarters for its members.

Disagreements between the two factions of the People's Democratic Party in Nigeria

Wick said: “We congratulate you on taking steps after the inauguration to ensure the return of our headquarters, which is where we are meeting today. Holding your meeting at the national headquarters is proof of your authenticity as the People’s Democratic Party.”

He continued: “If there is any other party from the People’s Democratic Party, let them come to the National Party headquarters and hold their own meeting.”.

He continued: “So I would like to thank you very much for this bold step you have taken. Instead of us renting hotels and other places, you made sure to restore our national headquarters. Thank you to you and your team members.”

He urged members to always stick with the party, saying: “Whatever happens, we will remain members of the People’s Democratic Party. I know that life is not without crises. No one can say that everything goes smoothly in their family. No, life will be difficult sometimes. What is important is your ability to face these challenges.”

He continued: “I thank God that we have overcome the crisis period. Now, we are united to ensure the progress of this party. I would like to commend all of you, leaders, for your loyalty and commitment. Indeed, despite all the temptations that led you to leave your party, you refused to stay here. Thank you all. This demonstrates the loyalty of the people and your desire to remain members of this party.”.

As the other speakers said: “Now that we are gathered, we must not stop at reconciliation, the more of us there are, the better. So, let us not say to those who defected, let them go, no. Mr. President and your team, make sure that a strong committee is formed to communicate with the defectors, and they will get their full rights.”.

Wick said that most of them probably defected because of the uncertainty. “If I wanted to run for election, and I wasn’t sure who would sign my papers to submit to the Independent National Electoral Commission, most people would certainly look for someone to support them. But now, if you talk to them, I think they will reconsider their position and continue to support this party.”.
