Egypt showcases its healthcare experience to African leaders
During the extraordinary summit of the African Union

Ambassador Mohamed Abu Bakr, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Foreign Affairs, participated Egyptians abroadAt the head of an Egyptian delegation, in the proceedings of the Extraordinary Summit of the African Union on Health, hosted by the Ghanaian capital Accra, where Egypt reviewed its experience in developing the health system and confronting health challenges on the continent, in addition to discussing ways to enhance African cooperation in this vital sector.
The Egyptian delegation included Dr. Abla Al-Alfi, Deputy Minister of Health, Ambassador Wael Fathi, Egypt’s Ambassador to Ghana, and Dr. Heba El-Sayed, Director of the AIDS Control Center.
The summit was opened by the President of Ghana, with the participation of a number of African heads of state, including the leaders of Tanzania, Burundi and Benin, along with the ministers of health, finance and foreign affairs from a number of member states of the African Union.
The Egyptian delegation reviews the fight against communicable and non-communicable diseases.
During the summit sessions, the Egyptian delegation reviewed the most prominent features of the Egyptian experience in combating infectious and non-infectious diseases and developing healthcare services, within the framework of the state’s efforts to achieve sustainable development goals and improve the quality of health services provided to citizens.
The Egyptian delegation discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and African countries in the areas of healthcare, pharmaceuticals and vaccines, and supporting local manufacturing to meet national needs, in addition to reviewing sustainable national financing models and discussing the most prominent financial and structural challenges facing the health sector in the African continent.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Egyptian delegation held a series of bilateral meetings with a number of participating delegations, during which views were exchanged on common health challenges and ways to enhance regional cooperation in confronting epidemics and diseases and improving healthcare systems.
Ambassador Mohamed Abu Bakr reviewed Egypt’s preparations for hosting the African Union’s mid-year summit, which is scheduled to include the African Business Forum, as well as the African Union Development Agency (NEPAD) summit, reflecting Cairo’s keenness to support integration and sustainable development efforts on the continent.
In a move reflecting the depth of Egyptian-Ghanaian relations, Ambassador Wael Fathi, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Ghana, met with Dr. Johnson Asiamo, Governor of the Central Bank of Ghana, to discuss prospects for strengthening joint cooperation between the two countries, especially in the banking and financial fields, and to benefit from Egyptian expertise in dealing with global and regional monetary challenges.
